Just say no to 'Clana' sex A revolution of revulsion
continued from page 1 This brings you up to speed for Smallville's fifth, and possibly last, season. A promo trailer and poster have made it fairly clear that Clark and Lana will have sex fifth season. This was also confirmed by show creator Al Gough. Clark Kent will be 'giving it up' to Lana Lang, who was recently voted Most hated TV Character in a zap2it poll. Gough says he will be using the Superman II loophole of making Clark completely mortal to get around the question of whether a Kryptonian and human can have sex without the woman being torn asunder. This was an odd comment from Gough considering they already had an episode where Jor-El, yes, Clark's biological father, came to Earth in 1961 and had sex with Lana's great, albeit adulterous, aunt Louise. There's something positively creepy about Clark having sex with the niece of a woman his father had sex with, but that's a side issue. A flesh-crawling side issue. The real issue is that Gough seems to believe that Clark would have been boffing babes in his youth if not for his super powers getting in the way. This amoral mindset neglects to take any type of honesty or ethics into account. Even without powers, Clark is not from Earth. Wouldn't a woman have the right to know she's having sex with an alien? Especially Lana, who is on record as saying that she'd be freaked out if she met a real alien. But let's suppose that Clark isn't just divested of his powers for part of fifth season, but is biologically altered to the point that he's 100% human and decides that he doesn't have to tell Lana anything because there's no longer anything to tell. The term "fool's paradise" comes to mind since it does not alter the truth of Clark coming to Earth during a meteor shower that killed Lana's parents, or that fragments from the old home world turned many citizens of Smallville into mutants who killed people and some who stalked and attempted to kill Lana. Yet it seems Gough is well aware of Clark's ethical deceit and plans to use that to cause the final break between Clark and Lana. Clark's powers will be restored and then Lana will discover that Clark had not only still been keeping secrets from her, but may believe he kept those secrets from her just to get her into bed. That won't have been Clark's intention, of course, but we all know what zip code's off ramp is paved with good intentions. Lana will then, if Gough is being truthful, turn to Lex Luthor.
